Introduction
As one of the most Promising
(per capita) Growth Prospects Countries, branded as next
eleven (11) to be listed
after the BRIC nation, Bangladesh economy is growing more than 6% even in
current global economy dullness. The merit of geopolitical location between two
big potential consuming markets of China and India is
attracting the possible investors for various industries with 160million
population, the lowest labor cost and the Promotion Policy of Special Economic
Zone and Export Process Zone from Bangladesh Government. The
young population with 57% of workers under 25 and the
huge local market of big population will be
the key points of development
for future economy.
Recently, Bangladesh Government is in acceleration
of Special Economic Zone to boost development of industry with competitive
incentives through New Economic Zone ACT 2010. Dhaka City, Capital city of
Bangladesh, is the nearest hinterland of AKKEZ (AK Khan Economic Zone)
project with 14million population and congested existing EPZs. Dhaka City is
growing to north part, especially in north-east and north-west because
of topographical character which is surrounded by big river in south part of
Dhaka. The existing EPZs in north part of Dhaka
area are congested already and there are no more rooms to absorb the market
demand of new Economic Zone. When AKKEZ is constructed with the Inland River
Container Terminal in the same site which is named as AKCT (AK Khan Container
Terminal), it would be a great potential project to contribute to Economic
Development of Bangladesh through the direct connection between Chittagong and
Dhaka City by the massive container ship without any traffic congestion.
Purpose of the Study
• The
Purpose of Feasibility Study is checking the Technical Feasibility and
Financial Feasibility, with technical and financial study. After finding the
possibility of the Project through Feasibility Study, this Feasibility Report
can be used for the invitation
of potential investors from Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia etc. Also, with the
successful completion of AKKEZ, the following effect can be realized.

Background of the Project
Bangladesh Government released the “Bangladesh
Economic Zones ACT 2010” to boost and promote the development of
industry with allowance of “Special Economic Zone”
in the country. This will be a prospective momentum of industry development to
prepare the shift of industrial modernization from low labor based industry to
a high-tech high-valued industry. Also, around area of the AKKEZ Project Site,
north part of Dhaka, such as Narayanganj,
Narsingdi, Gazipur, Tongi & Savar have no more capacity to accept the
demand of Economic Zone. These existing Economic Zones are using
Dhaka-Chittagong Road to transport their cargoes with trucks. It seems that the cost will be very
high cause of delayed transportation time more than 4 and 5 days. The most
beneficial merit of AKKEZ will be that AKCT (AK Khan Container Terminal) is
developing in the same site to make easy the mass transportation between Dhaka
and Chittagong Port with container ships without any traffic congestion. This
special circumstance of AKKEZ will stimulate lots of potential investors
who want to escape, relocate and establish their factories
to Dhaka area because
of their countries’ higher labor costs and transportation
costs.

provide Port Facility (AK Khan

integral part of the EZ.

Dhaka-Chittagong Highway
is 40 km away from
AKKEZ. the distance is about 15 km From Narsingdi Industrial
Zone and 24 km from Tongi, Industrial Zone.
